General Questions
Eco-tourism is responsible travel to natural areas that protects the environment and supports the people who live there.
Most of the money you spend stays with the local community, not a city-based hotel chain.
ESDO (Eco Social Development Organization) is a Bangladeshi NGO that has worked in rural development and environmental protection for over three decades. Eco-tourism is one way ESDO turns conservation and community development into a self-sustaining model.
Both. You will see rice fields, rivers, and rural landscapes, but you will also meet artisans, taste home cooking, and may witness local festivals or craft traditions, depending on the season and village.
It is still a developing sector compared to neighboring countries, but it is growing fast. ESDO's own village homestay program has welcomed visitors for years and has hosted travelers from as far as New Zealand and Europe.
Booking & Pricing
Message us on Facebook, WhatsApp, or email. Tell us your preferred date, number of travelers, and which eco-village or package you are interested in. We will confirm availability and next steps.

The primary package is all-inclusive: transport in our brand-new A/C Toyota Coaster, accommodation at ESDO guest houses, standard local meals, and a trained travel guide throughout the trip.
Entry tickets at tourist points (except Lokayan Museum) and any personal costs are not included. Infant babies under 2 years travel free but do not have a dedicated seat in transport or accommodation.
The primary package price is fixed per person and all-inclusive. For custom or corporate group packages, pricing is tailored to your specific requirements and budget.

We offer special consideration for educational institutions and larger group bookings. Reach out and we will discuss what is possible.
Homestay & Accommodation
A homestay means staying inside or very close to the home of a local family. You eat their food, live their daily schedule, and experience village life as it actually is — not a curated version of it.
Accommodation on the primary package is at ESDO's own air-conditioned guest houses in Rangpur and Tetulia — twin-share rooms, clean and comfortable. Eco-village homestays offer a more immersive but simpler experience.
At ESDO guest houses, bathroom facilities are clean and well maintained. At village homestays, arrangements may be more basic and sometimes shared, which is part of the authentic experience.
Standard local food — rice, dal, fresh vegetables, and fish or chicken, cooked in the traditional way. Everything is sourced locally. If you have dietary requirements or allergies, let us know in advance and we will accommodate you.
ESDO operates guest houses in Dhaka, Rangpur, Thakurgaon, Kurigram, and Tetulia. Special rates are available subject to room availability.
Travel & Transport
A brand-new 2026 model Toyota Coaster, fully air-conditioned, with seating for 24 passengers plus 5 additional seats for a total capacity of 29. It is comfortable, safe, and well-maintained.
The primary package departs every Wednesday at 3:00 PM from ESDO House, House 748, Road 8, Baitul Aman Housing Society, Adabar, Dhaka-1207.
The group arrives back in Dhaka on Saturday at approximately 7:00 PM.
Travel time from Dhaka to northern destinations like Rangpur or Tetulia is typically 6 to 10 hours by road, depending on traffic and weather.
Yes, in many cases. Tell us your starting location and we will advise the best way to join the tour or meet the group.
Yes. Local transport such as rickshaws, vans, or short walking distances are typically used to move between the homestay, farm, and activity sites within the village.
Community Impact
A large share goes directly to the host family, local guides, and artisans you interact with. This is the core idea behind community-based tourism: keeping income inside the community, not letting it flow out to outside companies.
Many host families are led by women who earn independent income through hosting, cooking, and craft-making. This income often supports their children's education directly.
Yes. ESDO and its partners provide training in hospitality, communication, and visitor safety to community members involved in tourism.
Yes, and we encourage it. Buying directly from the person who made a craft supports their livelihood far more than buying through a middleman.
Absolutely. Community-based tourism research consistently shows that when income reaches local families directly, it creates real, lasting benefits for education, health, and conservation.
Safety & Practical Matters
Very safe. Rural community tourism areas are generally calm and welcoming. We also recommend checking current travel advisories for any region before departure, as a general precaution.
Light, modest clothing, comfortable walking shoes, a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and any personal medication you need.
Most areas have basic mobile network coverage, though signal can be weaker than in cities. Treat this as a chance to disconnect, not a problem to solve.
Our guides carry basic first aid and know the nearest medical facilities. For serious issues, we will arrange transport to the closest proper hospital immediately.
We recommend drinking boiled, filtered, or bottled water throughout your stay. We will guide you on safe water sources at each location.
Any season is a good time to visit, as each one offers a unique experience. Every season has its own charm and beauty to enjoy.
Standard travel precautions apply, including mosquito protection, safe food and water choices, and basic hygiene. We are highly conscious of our guests' health throughout the trip.
Sustainability & Plastic-Free Policy
Bring a reusable water bottle and avoid single-use plastic bags or bottles during your stay. It is a small ask that protects the wetlands, fields, and rivers you came to enjoy.
Genuine eco-friendly tourism means managing waste properly, sourcing food locally, and ensuring local communities benefit fairly. ESDO's model is built around exactly these principles.
Through community-level zero-waste practices that ESDO has run for years, separate from tourism. Visitors are asked to carry out anything they bring in that cannot be properly disposed of locally.
Absolutely. Following the plastic-free policy, staying on marked paths, and not disturbing wildlife are simple but meaningful ways every visitor contributes.
Groups, Corporate & International Visitors
Yes. We offer flexible packages for corporate groups, development organizations, donor missions, and special interest teams. Itineraries, meals, accommodation, and transport can all be tailored.
Yes, this is one of our most popular group categories. We can tailor the itinerary around general cultural learning, environmental education, or specific academic needs.
Small groups of 8 to 25 people work best for a personal, low-impact experience. Larger groups can be accommodated with advance planning across multiple homestays.
Absolutely. International travelers have visited ESDO-linked homestays before, including guests from New Zealand and Europe, and have described it as one of the most memorable parts of their Bangladesh trip.
Guides are available to help translate and bridge the gap. Many visitors say the connection happens beyond words anyway — through warmth and hospitality.
Yes. For university groups and corporate visits, we can issue a participation certificate or impact summary on request.
Solo travelers are welcome and are often paired thoughtfully with a host family and guide for a comfortable, well-supported experience.
Yes, but always ask permission before photographing any individual. Some moments and private spaces may not be appropriate to photograph. Your guide will advise you.
You are welcome to, though it is not required. If you do, simple, practical gifts are usually appreciated more than items chosen only for novelty.
